Pregnancy & Post Partum Hair Loss
Excessive hair loss that occurs one to five months following pregnancy is called Telogen Effluvium. It affects about 40 to 50% of women. The good news is that it is almost always temporary. If you feel that you are losing too much hair, it might actual be due to a vitamin deficiency in which case, you should speak with your doctor.
Around three months after delivery is when most women lose significant amounts of hair. This is caused by hormones reaching normal levels which allows hair that had been held by high pregnancy hormone levels to fall out. Within six to twelve months after delivery is when most women find that their hair has once again reached a normal state.
